Rising 12 floors high and adorned in a pure white façade reminiscent of the frangipani flower, Saigon - Vinh Long hotel completely stands out amongst the vast open space overlooking Vinh Long City Square and the poetic Co Chien River.
Located right in the city center with Saigontourist Group’s 4-star standards, Saigon – Vinh Long is currently the tallest hotel in Vinh Long. This is also where we stayed for 2 “field days” in the land of abundant gardens and waterways.
My room was on the 11th floor, with a beautiful view on the Co Chien River. From the window, I could contemplate the flow of vehicles moving up and down the street, the rows of charming red-roofed houses that stretched along the riverbanks and the hustle and bustle of boats chaotically passing by.
But the hotel’s best view is on the 5th floor. Here you can find a spacious garden where you can admire breathtaking scenes on the river junction or watch splendid sunrises and sunsets over the river. This is also an ideal place for families to organize outdoor barbecues (BBQ), or a prime location to observe fireworks displays from a close distance during festive holidays.
If you want to experience a sight from above while on the move, from here you can descend via a transparent glass elevator while slowly glancing at the web of the streets below. The 5th floor also features a gym and a pool. After a “field” day, I always enjoy moments of soaking in the pool, relaxing on sunbathing chairs and letting my thoughts wander into the sky.
In the evening, you can explore the wine cellar on the 3rd floor of the hotel. The wine cellar has 4 halls, including Mandarin, Bamboo, Longan and Lotus, with the capacity to welcome up to 15 guests per hall. In a space designed to simulate Western taverns, you can continue to enjoy slow-living moments with glasses of wine while dining on amazing European and Asian dishes. Vinh Long is the land of gardens, so you are always served the freshest seasonal fruits such as dragon fruit, watermelon, pineapple, guava and star apple after every main meal as well as during the breakfast buffet.
Saigon - Vinh Long hotel has officially been opened for less than two years now, so the facilities here are still new. When staying here, not only can you enjoy the best amenities, but also the authentic spirit of hotel staff’s hospitality. They serve guests wholeheartedly, openly and lovingly in the way generous South Westerners are known for. Though I only stayed for two days, I became well acquainted with Mr. Thuan, the hotel receptionist. He is like a local correspondent who’s always at the ready to share any information about his homeland that I needed during my trip. Hotel staff like Mr. Thuan have a way of making travelers like myself feel right at home – a place where one’s always eager to come back.
Though my trip to explore the charm of Vinh Long’s countryside was short, the excursions to the CocoHome coconut house, Ben Thanh - Vinh Sang tourist resort on An Binh islet and the ancient pagoda of Phuoc Hau with its stone-carved Buddhist scriptures, have brought me plenty of extremely interesting experiences.
