Hotel history

The history of the hotel began in 1901 when Henri Bogaert, the owner of the Long Tho brick and tile factory, started construction and named it “Grand Hotel de Hue”. At that time, in addition to serving tourists, Saigon Morin Hotel also took on the role of “guest house” of the Southern government and the protectorate, the Central Agency. The hotel quickly became the center of commerce, culture and tourism of the imperial capital of Hue during the Nguyen Dynasty.

In 1904, the storm in the year of the Dragon severely damaged the hotel. Mr. Bogeart repaired it and transferred ownership to the bourgeois A. Guerin. In 1907, the hotel was transferred to the Morin brothers, taking the name “Morin Frère” (the Morin brothers hotel). The name Morin is associated with the hotel’s history from then until today.

Before the August Revolution, the hotel had 70 bedrooms, a 120-seat restaurant, a coffee shop, a wine bar, a butcher shop, a cinema, a garment factory, a large warehouse…

Until 1957, the hotel was the campus of Hue University. After the liberation day, continue to serve as the basis for Hue University. In 1991, the hotel was assigned to Thua Thien Hue Tourism Company and welcomed backpackers and independent tourists.

With the consent of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and the People’s Committee of Thua Thien – Hue Province, Saigontourist Morin Hue Company was established in the form of a joint venture between the Finance and Administration Board of the Thua Thien – Hue Provincial Party Committee and the Saigon Tourist Company. Saigon at the rate of capital contribution 50/50, renovated and upgraded into a 3-star hotel with 127 bedrooms.
