Saigontourist Group and Phu My Hung Development Corporation held a ceremony to inaugurate and put into operation Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) Exhibition Area B on April 26, 2022 in District 7, HCMC after more than two years of construction. The project is the largest exhibition center in Vietnam, the exhibition hall in Southeast Asia that meets international standards in terms of engineering, construction and space of the exhibition industry.

The inauguration of SECC Exhibition Area B is also an event to celebrate the 47th anniversary of the liberation of the South and reunification of the country (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2022).

SECC is a joint venture between Saigontourist Group with 60% of contributed capital and Phu My Hung Development Corporation with 40% of contributed capital.

In Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular, the type of tourism that combines meetings, seminars, conferences, exhibitions, investment and shopping (referred to as MICE) has grown strongly in recent times as we have the great advantage of being the new destination of international MICE. In Ho Chi Minh City, over the past time, the flow of MICE tourists has been increasing, making a significant contribution in attracting foreign currency sources, different types of investment, and affecting the development of other economic sectors. Therefore, the SECC project is a key project of tourism in Ho Chi Minh City.

“Saigontourist Group identifies MICE tourism as one of its key products. Before the pandemic, every year Saigontourist Group welcomed and served hundreds of thousands of MICE guests, bringing in thousands of billions of Dongs in revenue. Under the direction and support of leaders of the City Party Committee, People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, Saigontourist Group and Phu My Hung Development Corporation established Saigon Exhibition and Convention Joint Venture Company to build SECC. It aims to implement the complete business development of the tourism service industry, combining conferences, seminars, exhibitions, and events in the city. We hope that the project will contribute to creating a breakthrough in tourism in Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City after a period of severe impact from the Covid-19 pandemic,” shared Mr. Pham Huy Binh, Chairman of Saigontourist Group.

On October 30, 2008, Exhibitor A of Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center put into service the first events and since then, it has been nearly 15 years and has contributed

many results, jobs, serving tourists in terms of tourism, investment, trade and economic cooperation. Every year, exhibitor A alone serves more than 50 exhibition events, welcomes nearly 7,000 domestic and foreign enterprises to participate in many exhibitions and more than 1 million visitors.

In 2019, Saigontourist Group continues to cooperate with Phu My Hung Development Corporation to deploy the second phase, Exhibition Area B SECC. On April 26, 2022, it was officially put into operation.

Exhibitor B is part of the SECC project created by design company Nikken Sekkei (Japan) - the unit that won the design rights in an international project design competition with more than thirty domestic and foreign units participating.

Mr. Vo Anh Tai, Deputy General Director of Saigontourist Group, Vice Chairman of SECC said that Exhibitor B with a total construction area of 33,071 m2, total investment of more than 900 billion VND, following the existing Exhibitor A, create an event space of 18,000 m2, equivalent to 1,000 standard booths. It includes 3 plus 1 design with 3 floors serving exhibitions, conferences, restaurants, offices, along with utility facilities, new functional spaces such as a warehouse system, a restaurant system, a parking garage... to meet the needs of customers when they come to carry out trade and exhibition activities in Vietnam in general and in Ho Chi Minh City in particular.

Exhibitor B is impressed with its modern, luxurious and professional architectural style thanks to the harmonious combination of neutral colors as well as the variety of materials such as metal, glass, and granite. In addition to the aesthetic factor, the project also ensures outstanding quality due to the use of high-class building materials imported directly from the countries in the G7. The lighting intensity in the exhibition hall is higher thanks to the combination of natural lighting from Louver windows and artificial lighting with high-end LED lighting system. The cooling system in the lobby is improved due to the application of a new type of environmentally friendly gas and increased cooling capacity. In addition, the corridor is equipped with an intelligent air-conditioning system to make air conditioning between areas more efficient and flexible.

Especially, the comprehensive upgrade of lighting and refrigeration systems thanks to the application of new scientific and technical achievements, is considered as the largest exhibition center in Vietnam, one of the exhibition halls in Southeast Asia that meets the international standards of engineering, construction and space of the exhibition industry.

Thus, up to now, Exhibitors A and B follow each other to create an event space with a floor area of up to 18,000 m2, equivalent to 1,000 standard booths. The center accompanied by convenient facilities, new functional spaces, typically the restaurant system is expanded up to 1,100 m2 with 6 kitchen areas convenient for serving a variety of Asian-European cuisines, satisfying the taste of many groups of customers who come to trade at SECC.

The spacious outdoor area with the expanded cargo gate is a new breakthrough, meeting the needs of transporting large and bulky goods. In addition, the event hall has an impressive floor capacity of 5,000 kg/m2. The parking area at the basement can simultaneously serve 220 cars and 440 motorbikes. In addition, there is a system of 6 warehouses for rent with a total area of nearly 1,000 m2, ready to serve customers to store goods and construction materials overnight, both short and long term. The basement ventilation system ensures that the space is always airy and cool.

During the construction of Exhibition B from 2019 up to now, although the situation of COVID-19 pandemic is complicated and unpredictable, with the spirit of solidarity and collective unity of the management, executives and people, employees of the unit have made great efforts to carry out the construction stages of the project, overcome difficulties to complete the work on time. In that spirit, SECC General Director Ms. Thuong My An estimates the total revenue when synchronously exploiting Exhibitor A and Exhibitor B is expected to reach over 500 billion/year, and at the same time serve millions of MICE visitors to HCMC and Vietnam.

Ms. Phan Thi Thang, Standing Committee member of the City Party Committee, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City highly appreciated the role of Saigontourist Group and Phu My Hung Development Corporation in investing and developing SECC. “I suggest that Saigontourist Group, Phu My Hung Development Corporation in the near future continue to pay attention in directing, supporting SECC in different activities and at the same time to research and implement investment the next phases of SECC project. It is recommended that the departments and agencies of the city and district 7 continue to create the best conditions for SECC. It is recommended that Saigontourist Group continues to show its pioneering role in investment and development of products and services, especially products and services that are and will be strengths of city tourism, such as conferences and seminars combination of shopping tourism (MICE), waterway tourism, and other thematic tourism. Continue to pioneer in building attractive product and service packages, offering many options to anticipate the market recovery after the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Continue to implement stimulus programs, promotions, connect the general programs of the city and the whole country," said Ms. Thang.

According to the MICE travel business, in the context that the tourism industry is recovering from the pandemic, the introduction of Exhibition Area B of Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center continues to show the determination of investors in the development strategy of MICE tourism as a key product and service in the tourism product system of Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam.
